When Can I Hand the Car Back?
Under the Consumer Credit Act (1974), you can hand a car back on HP or PCP once you've paid at least 50% of the total amount payable. Enter your numbers to see when you hit that milestone.

The small print (worth knowing)
- 50% is a floor, not a ceiling. If you've paid less, you can top up the difference in a lump sum and hand the car back the same day.
- Fair wear-and-tear only. The lender can charge for damage beyond BVRLA's fair wear-and-tear guidelines — kerbing, dents, missing service history.
- Excess mileage still counts. On a PCP agreement, the pence-per-mile charge for going over your agreed limit still applies at VT.
- Send it in writing. VT is a legal right — no lender can refuse it. Send the notice by recorded delivery and keep a copy.
This tool is a guide, not legal advice. Your exact 50% figure will be shown on your original agreement schedule or in your lender's early-settlement letter.
